Whether you’re an acoustic drummer looking to incorporate electronics into your kit, a hand percussionist in need of a versatile unit, or a producer seeking a percussion controller for the studio, the DTX Multi-12 has got you covered.

Maybe this product doesn’t totally fit this post, but I wanted to include it since Nord is such a well-known brand. The big thing to remember is that it is a percussion synthesizer. The unit is not a sampler. Therefore, all the sounds from the unit are made inside the unit using synthesis. Is this a good or bad thing? It’s really up to you. Modes of Synthesis with the Drum 3P The looping functionality is great and the ability to overdub samples in real-time from the unit standalone is superb.Once you’re ready to sample, press ‘Arm to record’, hit ‘Record’and play your sample. When finished, press ‘Stop’. Editing samples on the Strike Multipad The Feel menu includes the usual range of parameters to set how each pad (and trigger input) responds. Sensitivity, Curve, Threshold and Fixed Level settings allow each pad to be tailored to your playing style. In the Output menu, Main+Phones, Aux+Phones, Phones Only, or one of the three Kit FX engines (more later) can be selected as output destinations. You can also set the MIDI note sent from each pad. The Alesis SamplePad Pro is a very attractive option for new drummers sporting the following features:

The Alesis Strike MultiPad will take your drums to the next level! Jamie from Alesis talks through the latest product, the Strike MultiPad: http://bit.ly/2Ejs3qD - This new drum pad could be a fierce competitor against other brands... The HXW PD705 offers a range of features and functions to enhance your drumming experience. With its built-in sound library, multiple trigger inputs, and MIDI connectivity, it provides versatility and flexibility for drummers of all skill levels. There are nine (9) built-in velocity-sensitive pads on the Strike Multipad, as well as three (3) inputs to connect additional external triggers, a hi-hat pedal, and two (2) dual foot controls.

I honestly couldn’t get over the number of trigger inputs that are available on this pad. You can have a major setup with controlled all by just this one unit. This great lighting displays velocity, loop length and more so you’re always on top of your performance, even in the darkest and foggiest venues.

Alesis ups its sample pad game with the new Strike MultiPad

The MultiPad features nine velocity sensitive rubber pads - six large (105x93mm) pads and three shorter (105x32mm) shoulder pads. Situated below each one is a narrow LED light that can be programmed to do some rather clever things, but more on that later... Use the ‘Play’ button to see how you did editing. If the volume seems a little low, you can use the normalize function to bring it to the level of all the other samples.

Roland does offer a special edition model of the SPD-SX that has considerable amount of more memory (16GB), but it is more expensive. LOOP-based recording of your pad performance is a snap, either from the samples you created, or from an external input. Either way, with Strike MultiPad looping can be seamlessly integrated into your playing. The other issue with the PD705 revolves around its creation. Several other electronic drum pads on the market have the exact same design, down to the knobs, shell, and display. The recently released ddrum NIO is a perfect example (along with the Lekato PD705, dbdrums nPad, and Gear4Music DD90). Are these instruments the same? I haven’t found the answer to that question yet. ConclusionAdding to the already incredible experience of using the Alesis Strike MultiPad, the v1.3 Firmware Update brings some great new features.
