About this deal

Importantly, it does give you the flexibility to widen or narrow the field of view (FOV) to give you a set of different looking images from the same location. Most importantly, I will tell you why the Nikon 200-500 is still one of the best lenses for wildlife photography, especially for wildlife photographers on a budget! The Nikon Z9 is currently the only Nikon mirrorless camera that performs similarly (actually better) in this area. Good samples can produce excellent results, while bad ones will make the experience of owning a lens pretty frustrating.

I'm happy at maximum magnification at 320 of a second panning and still get a lot of good images at lower shutter speeds, 320 is my banker.

Handling wise the NIKKOR 200–500mm is a nicely balanced lens unlike the Sigma, which like most primes has a lot of glass up front. All these filters are just as sharp and take the same pictures, the difference is how much abuse they'll take and stay clean and stay in one piece. Using a 2× converter is an exercise for the truly afflicted; you'll have to use a tripod and focus via Live View.

The Nikon 200-500 may not have the same level of weather sealing as pro-grade lenses, but my experience with it in harsh conditions has been very positive, especially paired with its protective LensCoat. One by one Nikon has been slowly replacing its old-style designed lenses featuring mechanical diaphragms with the newer, superior electromagnetic diaphragm. All these lenses vary in sharpness depending on the particular copy so in reviews you find all kinds of opinions. This makes it an ideal option for wildlife photographers who want to capture stunning images without breaking the bank. stops of image stabilization, which is remarkable for shooting handheld at slow shutter speeds in low light.
