Regarding the ponies taken on the Terra Nova expedition, we are not told that the anecdotal evidence that white ponies were better for the conditions than brown, came from Shackleton, who had had great success with them on his Nimrod expedition. But like so many great people and thinkers throughout history he had a troubled side, a tormented soul and some considerable human flaws too.
