About this deal

One-tap Google Fast Pair and multipoint technology (pair to two devices simultaneously) didn’t make the cut. Edifier W240TN review: Verdict

Even after twisting and turning the buds and trying to find the magical position that would be the most ergonomic for my ears, I was unsuccessful. You may look sleek with the Edifier W240TN buds on, but that style comes at a cost. You'll definitely need to take breaks every one to two hours while wearing these wireless earbuds. For the W240TN to come with only SBC codec support seems silly, especially when numerous other wireless earbuds come programmed with AAC and aptX. Nonetheless, the streaming quality on iOS and Android devices was solid.

Controls

With the W240TN you actually get an interesting interior design for a true wireless, with dual dynamic drivers 10mm and 6mms. A Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset is also part of its inside build. For its interactive aspects, Edifier has gone with a more simplified physical button on both earpieces. This method works effectively without any major delays. ANC is average for the price, ineffective with high-frequency noise, but okay with low-frequency noise. Like most newer Bluetooth products, Edifier has a companion app with many features, like dynamic sound mode, custom EQ, and game mode. Bluetooth The Edifier looks a lot like the Beats Studio Buds; they’ve got the same sculpted boot appearance that helps them slip into the ear easily, and they also make use of physical controls, which is again helpful in operating the earbuds. There’s that sure-fire recognition and response that comes with presses than there is with touch controls. With the upper-midrange extension to vocals, comes a nice finishing touch in the treble range. The crisp elements of the W240TN are helped through EQ, but these earbuds also have natural details in their highs. There’s a great sizzle to vocals and instruments that adds color and grace to the sound signature. It adds height and never over-extends into brightness or harshness. Everything is played safe while still using treble details to add texture to the timbre. Summary The case has a soft touch finish with some nice curves and the case is not too large you can fit the case into your jeans without any issue. The size of the case measures 2.3 x 1.7x 1.1 inches and it’s lightweight at only 39.6g. What I really love about this case is the designer must have been a KnightRider fan as it has a LED strip that reminds me of Kit from the TV classic apart from the fact it’s a white light instead of red but it’s still very cool. The W240TN has a great style for those just looking for something small that fits well. Its aesthetic build is quite nice too, with a singular design that sets itself apart from other true wireless earphones on the market. I could keep the W240TN in my ears for hours on end without needing to adjust them like they’re a natural part of your ear. Design and Functionality

Edifier employs hybrid ANC to eliminate vast amounts of ambient noise. How well does the technology perform? Much better than the price suggests. The W240TN exhibit fantastic build quality. They're ruggedly handsome and small compared to other oval-shaped wireless earbuds, and feature an aluminum housing and integrated multifunctional button. Attached is a sturdy plastic cavity that carries most of the hardware and they're rated at IP55, which guarantees dust and waterproof protection. Two preset EQ sound effects are available and more EQ settings can be adjusted by your favor via Edifier Connect App. Shutdown timer function is featuredNeither case has wireless charging, both have an IP55 rating, but the Elite 3s come with Google Fast Pair. The real trade-off seems to be the better software behind the Elite 3s, and the better coaxial drivers of the W240TNs. Q: How does the Edifier W240TN compare to the Creative Outlier Pro? I used the W240TN mostly at home. The buzzing noises from my AC condenser and washing machine were silenced, along with most of the family chatter that transpired in different rooms. Even my toddler’s electronic toys weren’t distracting. Not everything was silenced. High-frequency sounds like baby cries and iPhone ringers at max volume were enough to break my concentration during office hours.

You can't miss how prominent vocals are on Edifiers newest earbuds. Whether it's darker male singers, female vocalists, or higher male singers: vocals take the center stage in the music. They're forward, crisp, and vibrant; just as easily dipping into the lows as reaching the higher notes. That is: highs within comfortable listening levels. While treble is clear and lively in reproducing both vocals and brighter instruments like violins or cymbals, highs cut off before they have the chance of sounding sharp or too bright - with the exception of the single highest volume level. Not many wireless earbuds manage handle this well.First thing I did was replace the narrow diameter/bore eartips with ones with a 5mm diameter. This brought out a much better and unrestricted sound. I have no idea why they give you tips that restrict the sound. If you’re streaming music from relatively low-resolution services like Spotify or Sirius XM, you’re not going to any decline in audio performance due to these earbuds using the SBC codec instead of AAC, aptX, or LDAC. If you’re really committed to squeezing the most value out of your Qobuz or Tidal subscription, on the other hand, you need to consider shopping in a different aisle. These earbuds aren’t aimed at you. Hit ‘Customized’ and that opens a complex looking 4-band EQ where you can alter the Gain, frequency bandwidth and Q Factor. The Q Factor “refers to the size of the centre frequency relative to the bandwidth”. The larger the value, the narrower the bandwidth. I must admit that despite this concept being around for ages I struggle to wrap my head around it – it’s a bit like what Final has done with its app for the ZE3000. The best advice is to play around to see what effect it has.

We discussed the adjustable EQ and that is where the Edifier App comes into play it provides you with all the features you want the home screen allows you to monitor battery levels, switch on ANC or transparency mode, and that customizable EQ in which you can adjust the sound to suit your needs. You also have the bonus of fast charging 10 minutes of charge will provide you with 2 hours of battery life which will get you out of trouble if that were to happen. Verdict Another factor that some might take issue with is the onboard controls. Edifier's W240TN wireless earbuds forgo the more popular touch panels for physical buttons. The buttons themselves function perfectly fine but it's what you can — or in this case, cannot— do with them that is irksome. The first thing you will notice about the W240TN is they have moved away from that futuristic design seen with the Neobuds S. These buds are designed in the inspired style of a piston in a car engine but with a sleek design. In addition to the audio quality and the ANC, you can also use these buds to take calls due to the built-in mics in both earbuds and the quality is fine I found I could be heard and could hear who is speaking clearly. If the environment is nice and quiet but as we know calls can happen at any time of the day. When you increase the outside noise the call quality can be affected, and more outdoor noise comes in than you might want. It’s a shame but these are budget-friendly in-ear headphones so it’s not a massive surprise. Battery Life The Edifier W240TN supports Edifier’s Connect app, which offers levels of customization from a Game mode that reduces audio latency to swapping between noise-cancelling modes and ‘sound effects’ (Classic, Dynamic, Customised).
