About this deal

Thanks Steve, the EM-10 sounds like a really great camera, which is no surprise given my personal experience with the EM-5. It's most visible if you look at the Jackson Triggs wine bottle at the bottom part of the low light studio scene. Crucially, it provides access to a large range of small, light and relatively affordable lenses, and its in-body stabilisation will work with every single one. The 12-40 is a heavy lens on the EM-1/EM-5 and must feel really front-heavy on smaller frames, but the results are worth trying to work with it. One poster who claims to have sent back his A7r and bought this for the IBIS must have been shooting under high light levels, because there's no comparison.

We've assembled a few of our favorite articles, tutorials, explainers, and guides to help beginners get started with photography and level up to advanced concepts. Olympus's noise reduction setting is accessed from the menu (Custom Menu E: Noise Filter), with four options available (Off, Low, Standard and High). onlooker: If the observed NR applied to the RAW files is due to the X-trans demosaicing process, then isn't it more likely that it's applied at all ISOs? On the E-M10, I waste too much time scrolling through the Super control panel and miss shots even after assigning all Fn buttons. Olympus’s Art Filters provide a wide range of image-processing looks, and are sufficiently tasteful that I’d actually consider using them, which isn’t always the case with other brands. That pixel count might sound a little low compared to the sky-high resolution of the latest cameras like the 40.

Again it can handle relatively gentle subject movement with no problem, but it’s not going to be the best option for shooting energetic, erratic children. I would completely agree with you on dynamic range, the em1 really shines in harsh daytime weather and the raw files are cake to work with really unbelievable compared to fuji files. Thanks so much for this review, i noticed that the camera photos are showing the 12-42mm power zoom, while your review and photos are made using the 12-40 pro zoom, maybe you should clarify this below the camera photos? When the camera is confronted with a moving subject, the continuous AF works quite well, in practice. It's funny because I live in Europe and I only see the flicker mentionned before in the very first second I turn on an Olympus camera, even one as old as the E-PL1.The Zoom will not exploit the full potential or quality of either of these cameras but if it were me, and was only going to use the zoom, then I’d go E-M10 for the small size and EVF. I found that Allison Johnson also complained about “grip” issue in the Handling section, so I see that I am not alone.

It’s a fairly simple matter to connect your E-M10 Mark IV to a smartphone via the OM Image Share (OI. Also while at all camera there is visible chroma noise even at low ISOs (400-800), in Fuji you don't see it ever. The E-M10 IV also inherited the eye and face detection algorithms from the then-flagship E-M1 Mark III, which work across a wider range of angles compared to previous generations. The camera also features an Advanced Photo (AP) mode, which normally requires prior photographic experience.

The E-M1 and Fuji X-T1 share that honor but the EVF in the E-M10 is good, just a but on the small side.

I guess I could do without the dial and rather have the options available in the Super Control Panel; a simple press of the OK button would make the options available when needed. Oly needs to come out of last century for battery charger as welll really a brick with a powercord to lug around c’mon….

If the A3000 sensor i what is in the A6000, I'd think that's a better machine for those who don't need IBIS to take slow shutter speed shots. Live Time allows you to watch long exposures develop in real time, taking the guesswork out of what is often an unpredictable process, while Live Composite allows you to build up light trails without overexposing the background. Good thing is that the mechanical shutter is not that loud, although louder than the mechanical shutter on the Olympus E-M1II for example. Since I do a lot of street shooting in bad weather, the G1/12-35 combo is weather-proof and just about the same weight and bulk of the G10/12-40 combo.
