About this deal

Nomad Outland Whisky is an unusual whisky; it is produced and aged for a certain amount of time in Scotland before being shipped top Jerez in Spain for a further period of ageing. Therefore it cannot be called Scotch Whisky and the producers have come up with the term Outland Whisky. Most Scotch Whisky is aged in sherry cask and this brand is owned by Gonzalez Byass, so perhaps this is not such quite a surprising synergy after all. Highly recommended. If you are a fan of Spanish brandy, like a sweeter Scotch, and appreciate the added complexity that a sherry finish provides, then you will find Nomad Outland Whisky an excellent addition to a “Scotch” whisky library even if it is not technically a Scotch. If your tastes run towards “peat monsters,” then it’s best to look elsewhere.

Nomad Outland Whisky - Ratings and reviews - Whiskybase

It’s not just the soaking wet freshness of the recently dumped sherry that adds magic to the juice — Spain’s increased heat and humidity means the whisky is spending more time getting absorbed into and influenced by the sherry-soaked oak than it does in chilly Scotland. Palate: Towards the front there is a bright spiced honey which moves into a medium weight fruit-and-nut medley with unexpected sweetness. Whiskey Review: Nomad Outland - The Whiskey Wash

Finish: The sweet fruit and honey notes refine as you swallow, providing a long, chewy vanilla/oak/raisin finish and just a faint hint of smoke. The overall mouth feel is a smooth, medium- to full-bodied whisky with both a surprising brightness and surprising sweetness. Compass Box released a small quantity (3,439 bottles) of its Great King St. Experimental Batch (Sherry Finish, #00-V4) Blended Scotch Whisky, 50cl, 43% ABV. Sherry butt aging/finishing has been the exception when it comes to blended Scotch, although it is not unheard of. There are a few notable examples of the style: Whiskybase B.V. is the Dutch private limited liability company, having its statutory seat in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and its office at Zwaanshals 530, 3035 KS Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Whiskybase B.V. is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under no. 52072819. Deanston is a sometimes overlooked Highlands distillery that has an excellent range of single malts, including some organic expressions and this limited release 20YO. The whisky was matured in Oloroso sherry casks for two decades, and bottled at cask strength without color added or chill-filtration. There are notes of dried fruit and vanilla on the palate, followed by a hint of baking spice and prune. The bourbon cask influences are evident in the distinctive spice and vanilla flavors, but act as a nice compliment to the sherry finish notes. The two sherries offset each other nicely, adding nuts and dried fruit notes from the Oloroso and the sweet, golden raisin notes of the PX. That sweetness is nicely balanced and well integrated, and is free of the cloying, syrupy sweetness that can sometimes accompany PX finishes. The alcohol is smooth with a satisfying warmth, and is reminiscent of a fine Spanish brandy.
