About this deal

Coming to it at the age I am now, I found it repetitive and rather exasperating--the cat does nothing but cry all the time. With lots of fairly short episodes, it will make a good bedtime series for several nights, and even lead to discussions about differing beliefs, about witches and treating others with kindness. By conforming Gobbolino, Williams asked the reader to accept the world (which is often judgemental, cruel, black-and-white) that he lived in, rather than Gobbolino himself. While his sister Sootica learns how to ride a broomstick and turn mice into toads, Gobbolino sets out to find a family to care for him and a home of his own.

Sometimes, we feel that we don't belong--that there is something more out there for us and I admire Gobbolino's desire to break away from what's expected of him. I love cats, I adore cats and no matter how simple this book is, I just couldn't help falling in love with Gobbolino. It is so monotonous, I could barely bring myself to read on, but I wanted to finish it since I knew I enjoyed it as a child. She said she enjoyed the book but it's not one that I enjoyed all that much, the repetitive format began to pall a bit. rămâne la o familie care îl crede un pisoi normal, iar asta dă peste cap întreaga morală a poveștii. It is beautifully written, and I love it now as an adult as much as I did 30 years ago when I read it the first time. The witch puts a spell on him, removing his magical powers, and he finds his way back to the farm where he began his journey, his coat having faded to an unrecognisable tabby.

He escapes to look for a kitchen home but is distrusted everywhere he goes and blamed for mysterious happenings, such as the farmer’s milk turning sour and the orphanage children’s gruel turning into chocolate. A knight finds him and gives him to a lady as a gift, but when Gobbolino tries to help the knight win over the Lady, he only causes more trouble. So he sets out on a journey to find a new home, but when people discover he is a witch's cat he is blamed for mysterious happenings, such as the farmer's milk turning sour and the orphanage children's gruel turning into chocolate. Still, the charm of Gobbolino and the interest of his varied adventures, as well as the deep questions that the book raises and embodies, are more than enough to compensate for the equivocal ending. Although his mother Grimalkin and sister Sootica are both witch's cats, Gobbolino longs to be a kitchen cat instead, to be loved rather than feared. While his sister is eager to begin her training as a witch's cat, Gobbolino longs to be a humble kitchen cat and to have a loving human family of his own. While reading this, I thought about all the stray cats in the world, all the abandoned ones, the unwanted, the discarded furry creatures and I wished with all my heart that they find a place to settle, to curl in, by the fire with a warm milk or a blanket to comfort them, a loving family to love them forever.

Sadly have little excuse to re-read with no grandchildren on the horizon yet but hey, who needed an excuse ?

Sweet story about a witch’s cat who wants to be an ordinary kitchen cat, and all of his adventures on the journey to find a forever home.

There are all the necessary characters that make a fairytale work: wicked witches on broomsticks, an ill but kind princess, a dragon in the tower, a kind woodcutter and his vain granddaughter… However, reading the story as an adult, I couldn't help seeing where the story was coming from: the misfit, disconnection, abandonment, and loneliness. Deși Gobbolino a fost adorabil, printre cele mai simpatice pisici din cărți despre care am citite, nu prea am fost de acord cu finalul. I like the circular nature of the tale, as Gobbolino begins his journey with the river and ends at the river. This celebratory anniversary edition features a forward from Harriet Muncaster, creator of the Isadora moon series. They are at least reading copies, complete and in reasonable condition, but usually secondhand; frequently they are superior examples.
